Kapitel 2 – Chapter 2               Stefan Bayer, 16

With it  was not yet however to end. After the can had spent several days in a box in the warehouse a huge lorry arrived with the inscription “Aldi”. A few boxes were loaded, the box with our can as well.

After a long journey the growling vehicle came finally to the standstill.

Suddenly the can realized that her box was moved. She was heaved out of the lorry and put into a large room.

It was not until later that the can noticed where she was when a nice salesperson opened the box. The can discovered an inscription “Storeroom of the supermarket-chain ALDI” at a wall.

The salesperson transported the box with a remarkable two-wheel scooter to a shelf where others of her sort stood. Only now she could read the inscription of her equals which said “Ravioli”. All of a sudden she realized which contents she had.

The market employee took the can out of the box –visibly with joy- and put her into the first row together with the other “Ravioli”-cans. There she spent two long days stressed out by the market`s radio music.

One day an elegant lady appeared in front of the can. After some consideration she reached out for her and put her into the shopping trolley between yoghurt, candy and detergents.

After that the customer pushed the trolley to the cash register, placed the articles and the can onto the conveyor belt. Suddenly the belt started to move and the can approached a funny instrument which was fixed behind the belt. Then a man sitting behind the cash register seized the can and pulled her unscrupously over that instrument. The price was a total of DM 11,95 a noticable proud sum for a can.

Then she landed in a bag and after the lady had paid she carried the can home to her house.

It was a very big house equipped with everything. Once entered the house the can was put onto a shelf  next to the window  in the kitchen by the elegant lady.

A man stepped into the kitchen and both began a conversation. The woman called the man who was obviously her husband “Dieter” and he called her “Carola”. From this conversation the can learned that Dieter was working as a policeman. He had recently arrested the accomplice of a gang leader during an assault on a factory.

The gang leader wanted to take revenge on Dieter and had him get a death threat.

While he was talking to his wife, who was preparing dinner, he put himself at the window to avoid being in her way.

Suddenly a black limousine turned with squeaking tyres into the street and finally stopped in front of their big house. Slowly somebody turned the tinted window pane down and a long tube was directed at the window where Dieter was standing.

The can recognized immediately the emerging situation and rolled herself without long hesitation from the shelf and landed on Dieter’s foot. He jerked screamingly because of the pain and the gunshot which was discharged meanwhile by the person in the limousine. It missed his head by a hair’s breadth and hit the kitchen clock.

Rocovering from that fright the well-trained policeman took up the chase after the limousine.

Because of speeding the driver of the limousine crashed into a parking car. The police arrived at the right moment at the accident’s scene. As the door of the car leaped open and the perpetrator wanted to escape Dieter put his leg in his way and the perpetrator fell down. Thus he could arrest him.

The policeman owed his life to the can which had acted in the right moment. She had of course a light dent from the impact on Dieter’s foot (floor) but she was happy about her heroic deed. Dieter put her into his display case together with his collection of police cups’ awards.   ...
