Name: K D

Age:    29, born on  12th July 1972

Where are you from ?

I was born in the town of Zeulenroda and lived in the town of Triebes. Here I grew up, went to the kindergarten and local school. I finished the secondary school of Triebes in 1989. From 1989 to 1992 I attended the grammar school of Zeulenroda, did my school-leaving exam and started my training in the management of the Dorint  Hotel  in Bad Brueckenau (Bavaria) in 1992.

Why did you leave your country / your home of residence ?

After my apprenticeship I worked as a receptionist and head of reservation in the Dorint Hotel of Frankfurt, a liitle later I was the acting receptionist in Bad Brueckenau. As I wanted to qualify myself in profession and languages I moved to Venezuela, exactly to the Isle of Margarita in 1999. Here I got to know my husband and we married in Caracas.

How did your family react to  it ?

My family looked at my decision very sceptically but in the end they aggreed. They wanted me to qualify myself in my job. Of course, they were worried about me, alone in the distance and a husband from a different culture area.

How were you received ?

I was received very well both in the hotel and then in my husband’s family. They are very pleeased about German speaking collegues in hotels. They need them.

.

How do you like your new home of residence ?

I don’t know if I can call my present home my new residence. I think we’ll change one  day, we are young , flexible and educable. There are lots of challenges in life. The life is fantastic here on the island – as it were always summer, always weather warm enough for swimming, always holidays, always holiday-makers in good mood.

What do you miss ?

Now and then I miss my family that means a lot to me. But we are always in contact and as now I’m at home in Triebes for some weeks from time to time.
