Tips to the teachers for "clean-up-day"

Don't forget everyone:

Students must be told beforehand to bring and wear hats and suntan lotion in places where the sun gets really strong around mid-day.

STURDY CLOSED FOOTWEAR MUST BE WORN TO AVOID ANY INJURIES.

Teachers take the necessary materials with you, garbage bags, rakes (optional), blastic gloves (optional).

You must inform the local government of what you intend to do and ask them to go by afterwards with a truck to pick up the garbage which you should pile up in a visible spot near the road.

As part of the learning experience, you can sit down with the students after the clean-up and talk to them about what they found.

Which single item was the most collected?

Which TYPE of trash was the most prevalent?

Why do they think this was?

What are some of the posible dangers of some of the items collected?

Which was the most dangerous (to humans or animals) item found?

Did they find any dead animals?

You can get students to write something up after returning to school which we could publish on our site together with the photographs which you MUST remember to take.

Don't forget to send a press release to the newspapers (with pictures) saying what you did and what you found.  Maybe some people will think twice before littering next time.

Take care and have a good clean-up day
