“Most wanted profession in a European future” |
nurse In my
opinion, as a nurse you have good chances of getting a place to train
and after that of getting a takeover bid. There will always be ill
people who need help. I’m fascinated of several aspects of this job
such as being in contact with people, helping and taking care for
people. The
requirements for this job are the “Realschulabschluss” (school
leaving qualification awarded to pupils leaving the “Realschule” or
year 10 of the “Gymnasium”) or an equivalent school education. It is
also possible with a “Hauptschulabschluss” (certificate of
compulsory basic secondary schooling) but in this case you have to
attend a training college for two years. You have to be at least 18
years old and must be in a healthy condition. In addition
to that the following aspects are required: openness for human problems,
skilfulness, sensitivity, a good handling with people, flexibility,
ability to cope with stress, taking responsibility and working in a team,
discretion, talent for observation, creativeness, well-trained language
skills, technical comprehension and talent for organization. The period
of training is three years and starts with a probationary period of six
months. The training period can be shortened for certain jobs: one and a
half years less for a children’s nurse, one year less for a midwife an
half a year less for an assistant with one year of professional practice.
The
training takes place at state-run schools for nursing. Generally the
schools are linked with hospitals. You live in a nurses’ home which is
also the school and you do your practical training in the hospital. The exams
consist of a practical, a written and an oral part. The practical and
written exams take six hours each and are splitted up on two days. In
your oral exam each subject takes 10 minutes. The theoretical training
includes theoretical and practical courses of at least 1600 lessons in
subjects like nursing, hygiene and medical microbiology, biology,
anatomy and physiology. The practical training includes 3000 lessons. The salary
during the first year of training is approximately 650 € gross, during
the second year approximately 700 € and during the third year
approximately 790 €. In
addition to that you get 250 € holiday pay a year. The profession
offers many opportunities of making career, as special nurses for
anaesthesia and endoscopies, municipality nurse, intensive care,
operation service, psychiatry nephrology, oncology and rehabilitation.
It is also possible to train for the job of a teacher for nursing
professions, a nursing pedagogue with diploma or headmistress. The income
of a twenty-one year old nurse is approximately 1700 € gross. For a
twenty-five year old nurse it is approximately 1900 €, for a
twenty-seven year old nurse approximately 2100m€ and for a twenty-nine
year old nurse 2300 €. As you can
see, this profession offers several possibilities of making career.
Nowadays, it is no problem to get a job outside Germany because of the
fact that many countries
have joined the EU. Switzerland has a lack of nursing staff. Personally,
I would like to continue as a special nurse for anaesthesia after my
training as a nurse. |
